The American lobster can live to the ripe old age of 80 to 100 years old.
Lobster come in orange, yellow, tangerine, white and even blue... but these colours are very rare: only fishermen catch one in a few million.
The world record lobster was caught in 1977 in Nova Scotia, tipping the scales of 44 pounds, 6 ounces (20,2 kg), measuring nearly four feet (1.2 meters) long.
The male lobster can only copulate when the female molts (while its shell is still soft).
Female lobsters can lay 5 000 to 100 000 eggs at a time.
Lobsters gain as much as 40% in weight and grow as much as 15% in length after each molt.
